Moderna

An American biotech company, Moderna was founded in 2010 with its headquarters in Cambridge, Massachusetts. It carries out its research with focus on drug discovery and development, based exclusively on messenger RNA (mRNA), a single-stranded RNA molecule. Several large pharmaceutical and biotech companies worked on this technique earlier, but none could achieve success till now. They could not deal with the side-effects of getting RNA into cells (the premise of this technique). Moderna is attempting to show that, however, mRNA drugs haven’t been approved yet for human use. The company is also working on a coronavirus vaccine, and is in the crucial phase 2 trials currently. It entered human trials in just 66 days after the virus was first put to sequence.
