Sergey Brin donates $1.1B in Alphabet stock after AI rally

Business

Google co-founder Sergey Brin donated over $1.1 billion in Alphabet shares, amid the company's stock soaring thanks to big advances in AI.
The move, revealed through official filings, saw more than 3.5 million shares handed over to support causes he cares about.

Where the money's going

Most of Brin's donation—about $1 billion—went to Catalyst4, his own nonprofit focused on brain disease research and climate change solutions.
He also gave $90 million to his family foundation and $45 million to the Michael J Fox Foundation for Parkinson's research.

Why this matters now

Brin's giving is powered by a huge jump in his wealth: he owns 6% of Alphabet and is now the world's fourth richest person with a net worth of $255.5 billion.
His fortune grew by nearly $100 billion this year alone as Alphabet stock hit record highs, all fueled by the excitement around AI breakthroughs.
