Stars refused to work with me: 'Deewaniyat' director recalls setbacks

The film, which clashed with Thamma, has been lauded for its storytelling and music. In an exclusive interview with Zoom, Zaveri spoke about the tough phase he faced before this comeback.
Career turnaround
Zaveri was jobless last year
Zaveri revealed that last year, he had no directorial projects lined up. "Last year, iss time par, I didn't have a single film as a director," he said. However, within a year, he directed three films, including the superhit Ek Deewane Ki Deewaaniyat. "I'm very grateful and fortunate. I just hope jo shubh nariyal futa hai with Deewaniyat, that good luck continues with my next films."
Casting challenges
Rane's decision turned the tide
Zaveri revealed that Rane's decision to work with him was a turning point. "I always say that Harsh cast me because no one was working with me." He added, "Of course, I had Mastiii 4 coming up, thanks to Riteish (Deshmukh), and Tera Yaar Hoon Main is with newcomers." "But there were no other stars who were ready to work with me."

The magic that followed
Zaveri's fortunes changed when Rane's film Sanam Teri Kasam was re-released. He messaged Rane with his script, who responded quickly and agreed to meet him. "The day I messaged, he replied, he met me, and he said yes. It was magical," Zaveri said. Soon after, Bajwa also agreed to join the project after hearing the narration of her character, Adaa.
