Born on April 15, 1959, Dame Emma Thompson is a British actress, screenwriter, producer, activist, author, and comedian who has several awards and accolades under her belt. She is the daughter of English actor Eric Thompson and Scottish actress Phyllida Law. A graduate of the University of Cambridge, she began her acting career with the Footlights troupe, which is a theatrical club at the University of Cambridge. She rose to prominence with the TV shows ‘Tutti Frutti’ (1987), and ‘Fortunes of War’ (1987). As of 2021, she has appeared in over 20 years. She made her film debut with the 1989 movie ‘Henry V’ but rose to prominence with the movie ‘Sense and Sensibility' (1995). As of 2021, she has appeared in over 40 movies. Some of her critically-lauded and commercially successful movies include ‘Dead Again’ (1991), ‘Much Ado About Nothing’ (1993), ‘The Remains of the Day’ (1993), ‘In the Name of the Father’ (1993), ‘Wit’ (2001), ‘Love Actually’ (2003), ‘Angels in America’ (2003), the ‘Harry Potter’ film series (2004-2011), ‘Nanny McPhee’ (2005), ‘Stranger than Fiction’ (2006), ‘Last Chance Harvey’ (2008), ‘Men in Black 3’ (2012), ‘Brave’ (2012), ‘A Walk in the Woods’ (2015), ‘Bridget Jones’s Baby’ (2016), ‘Beauty and the Beast’ (2017), ‘Late Night’ (2019), and ‘Cruella’ (2021). She is the recipient of two Academy Awards, two Golden Globe Awards, two British Academy Film Awards, a British Academy Television Award, and a Primetime Emmy Award.
