A recipient of Padma Shri, Stegner Fellowship, Guggenheim Fellowship, and Commonwealth Writers' Prize, Vikram Seth is an Indian novelist and poet. While in school, he was the editor-in-chief of his school's weekly magazine. Later, he moved to England to complete his A-levels. In 1980, Seth published his first book, 'Mappings', which was a book of poetry and was later adapted into a BBC television drama in 2020. In 1999, he published his second book 'An Equal Music', which was an account of the troubled love-life of a violinist. In the following years, he wrote many books and released his first children's book in 1992, 'Beastly Tales from Here and There', which consisted of 10 animal stories. In 2001, he was appointed the Commander of the Order of the British Empire. In 2006, the author gained much popularity after he led the campaign against the anti-homosexuality law, Section 377 of the Indian Penal Code.
