4 dead, 1 injured in South Delhi footwear shop fire
A fire broke out at a footwear shop in Tigri Extension, South Delhi on Saturday evening, leaving four people dead and one woman injured.
The blaze started on the ground floor and spread quickly through the four-storey building.
Among those lost were the shop owner Satender (38) and his sister Anita (40), while two people, believed to be customers, are yet to be identified.
Mamta, a 40-year-old woman, is recovering in hospital with burn injuries.
What's happening now
Investigators think flammable materials like synthetic leather and adhesives inside the shop made the fire worse.
Police and forensic teams are examining whether a petrol canister, short circuit, or an old fridge may have started the fire.
DNA samples from the unidentified victims are being analyzed as officials try to figure out exactly what happened—and how such a tragedy could be avoided in future.
