Amit Khare is an Indian Administrative Officer (IAS) from the 1985 batch. He belongs to the Bihar/Jharkhand cadre and is serving as the Secretary of the Ministry of Education in the Government of India, as of 2021. Khare was born in 1961 and completed his graduation from St. Stephen’s College in Delhi. He also has an elder brother named Atul Khare who serves as an officer in the Indian Foreign Service. He is widely known for investigating and exposing the Fodder scam which was a corruption scandal. The scam involved the embezzlement of a whopping amount of Rs. 940 crores in Bihar for several years. The scam led to the imprisonment of former chief ministers Lalu Prasad Yadav and Jagannath Mishra. Khare has a keen interest in Education and has held the position of State Elementary education secretary for many years. He had also formerly worked at the Ministry of Human Resource Development. He played a crucial role in introducing the 2020 National Education Policy.
