Bengaluru prison warden caught smuggling drugs and cigarettes

India

Rahul Patil, a warden at Bengaluru's Parappana Agrahara Central Prison, was arrested after he tried to sneak narcotics and cigarette packs into the jail.
Security stopped him when metal detectors kept beeping at the entrance around 6:50pm.
A search turned up two cigarette packets and about 60gm of a paper-like drug hidden in his underwear.

What happens next?

Patil, who joined the prison staff in 2018 and moved to this facility in June 2025, has been suspended right away.
He's facing charges under strict drug and prison laws, and is currently in custody waiting for bail.
Police are now digging deeper to see if he was working alone or part of a bigger smuggling network inside the prison—especially since there have been other recent cases of staff misconduct here.
The investigation is ongoing.
