Civic activist attacked in Dadar after speaking up against illegal gambling
Chandrakant Kamble, a 32-year-old civic activist, was seriously assaulted late Sunday night at his Dadar West housing society.
His neighbor, Deepak Chowgule—who Kamble had repeatedly reported for running illegal gambling and vehicle washing operations—allegedly attacked him with two others.
Kamble suffered a fractured nose, broken jaw, and broken teeth.
Police response and growing public concern
Police have filed an FIR against Chowgule under sections for causing hurt and criminal intimidation, but he's still on the run.
Kamble had already flagged threats to his family and felt police weren't acting on his earlier complaints.
The case has sparked public outrage over the safety of civic activists in Mumbai who challenge illegal activities.
Calls are growing for stronger action to protect whistleblowers like Kamble.
