Coimbatore: Police shoot burglary suspects after violent arrest attempt
Three men from Uttar Pradesh—Ashik, Arif, and Irfan—were shot by Coimbatore police on Saturday after being tracked down for a series of burglaries in the Tamil Nadu Housing Board complex at Kavundampalayam.
When officers tried to arrest them after identifying them using CCTV footage, the suspects allegedly attacked a head constable with a sickle, injuring him.
Police responded by shooting below their knees to stop them.
What happened next?
The suspects had reportedly broken into 13 flats on November 28, stealing gold jewelry, silver, and cash worth lakhs.
After their arrest, all three were hospitalized for their injuries.
Forensic teams and sniffer dogs searched the crime scene while officials began investigating both the burglary spree and the attack on police.
The case is still under active investigation.
