Converts to Christianity can't get SC benefits, rules Allahabad HC

India

The Allahabad High Court just made it clear: if you convert to Christianity, you can't claim Scheduled Caste (SC) reservation benefits.
This came up when the court dismissed a plea from Jitendra Sahani, who was accused of insulting Hindu deities and trying to convert people.

Why does it matter?

The court found that Sahani's story didn't add up—he said he was Hindu, but evidence showed he'd become a Christian priest.
Referring to the Constitution and recent Supreme Court rulings, the judge said SC status only applies to Hindus, Sikhs, and Buddhists.
Now, district officials in Uttar Pradesh have four months to crack down on anyone wrongly claiming SC benefits after converting.
The court called misuse of these reservations "fraud on the Constitution," aiming to keep things fair for everyone who truly qualifies.
