Delhi's air quality stays 'very poor' for 23 days straight
Delhi has just gone through its second-longest streak of 'very poor' air quality since 2019, with the AQI stuck above 300 for 23 days as of November 29.
This rough patch kicked off on November 6 and even saw three 'severe' days in mid-November.
Stagnant winds and chilly weather aren't helping, and forecasts say low wind speeds will likely keep the pollution hanging around a bit longer.
Local sources are driving the pollution—and solutions are on the table
A recent report from the Centre for Science and Environment calls this a "public health emergency," pointing out that local emissions—especially from transport (39% of PM2.5), industry, construction, and road dust—are to blame.
The CSE is pushing a seven-point plan to clean things up, like switching to electric vehicles and tightening industrial rules.
Even though pollution is still high, some restrictions like work-from-home have already been lifted.
