A moderate earthquake measuring 4.2 on the Richter scale struck the Bay of Bengal on Tuesday morning, the National Centre for Seismology (NCS) reported. The tremor was recorded at 07:26:35 IST at a depth of 35km. The NCS shared details on X (formerly Twitter), stating, "EQ of M: 4.2, On: 02/12/2025 07:26:35 IST, Lat: 20.56 N, Long:92.31 E, Depth:35km Location Bay Of Bengal."

The Bay of Bengal tremor was one of the several earthquakes that have rocked South Asia in recent days, Livemint reported. On Tuesday, a magnitude 3.9 earthquake shook Tajikistan at a depth of 75km. The NCS shared details on X, stating: "EQ of M: 3.9, On: 02/12/2025 04:35:14 IST, Lat:37.15 N Long:72.43 E Depth:75km Location Tajikistan."

Tajikistan had also witnessed a magnitude 4.2 earthquake on November 26 at a depth of 90km, the agency had earlier reported. On December 1, two more earthquakes were recorded in different regions: a magnitude 3.3 tremor in Tibet and another in Afghanistan. A magnitude 3.3 tremor hit Tibet early Monday at a depth of 50km. Later on December 1, a magnitude 4.3 earthquake struck Afghanistan at a depth of 90km. The agency shared details on X, stating: "EQ of M: 4.3, On:01/12/2025 07:36:15 IST Lat:36.70 N Long:71.51 E Depth:90km Location Afghanistan." Earlier on Sunday, an earthquake measuring 4.4 hit Nepal's Bajhang district in Sudur Paschim province at around noon local time (12:09pm).
