Goa nightclub fire: Darjeeling chef among 25 victims

India

A devastating nightclub fire in Goa on Saturday night claimed 25 lives, including Subash Chettri, a 23-year-old trainee chef from Bagdogra.
Subash had moved to Goa in January 2024 to help his family and pay off a big loan.
He was working in the basement kitchen when the fire broke out, according to his sister Urmila.

Unsafe conditions and family's heartbreak

According to Subash's family, the basement reportedly had no fire alarms or ventilation and just one exit, making escape nearly impossible.
A senior chef from Nepal who helped Subash get the job broke the news to his family.
They held onto hope until police confirmed his death after autopsies.
As Subash was the main earner for his family, their loss is especially tough right now.
