Goa nightclub fire: Survivor recalls chaos, delayed rescue efforts

India

A tragic fire broke out at Birch by Romeo Lane nightclub in North Goa's Arpora on a recent Saturday night, leaving 25 people dead.
Bhavna Joshi, the only survivor from her family, lost her husband and three sisters that night.
The blaze started due to a sparkle gun used by performers, with sparking beginning in the ceiling, quickly spreading flames and causing panic as people struggled to escape due to poor safety measures.

Survivor's story and aftermath

Joshi shared how there were no emergency exits or fire safety measures, making it impossible for many to get out.
She also pointed out that the fire brigade arrived 45 minutes after the flames started—far too late to help most victims.
Following an investigation into these serious lapses, club owners Saurabh and Gaurav Luthra now face charges of culpable homicide for ignoring basic safety rules.
