India strengthens Siliguri Corridor with 3 new military bases

India

India has set up three new army bases in Dhubri (Assam), Kishanganj (Bihar), and Chopra (West Bengal) to better protect the Siliguri Corridor—a narrow, 22km stretch that connects the northeast with the rest of the country.
This move comes as tensions rise in the region, especially with recent political changes in Bangladesh and Bangladesh increasing its military cooperation with China and Pakistan, including acquiring advanced weaponry and technology.

Why does it matter?

The Siliguri Corridor is basically India's lifeline to its northeastern states—if it's cut off, seven states could be isolated within hours.
By placing these new garrisons at key spots and upgrading local defenses with Rafale jets, BrahMos missiles, and advanced air systems, India is making sure it can respond quickly to any threat.
It's a clear message: keeping this corridor secure is a top priority for India amid growing regional challenges.
