IndiGo crisis: Government to take 'stringent action' against airline
IndiGo just went through a major meltdown, with flight cancelations and delays throwing travel plans into chaos.
The government isn't letting this slide—Aviation Minister Ram Mohan Naidu said they'll take "very, very strict action" to "set an example" for other airlines.
He also pointed out that India needs more airlines to counter the current duopoly and reduce industry concentration.
How IndiGo and the government are handling it
IndiGo is working to get things back on track, aiming for over 1,800 flights on Monday and hitting a 91% on-time rate.
They've refunded ₹827 crore to customers for canceled flights up to December 15 and delivered thousands of lost bags.
Meanwhile, the aviation ministry has already processed refunds worth about ₹570 crore for nearly six lakh bookings affected in early December—so at least travelers are getting some relief.
