Jaishankar says Pakistan army fuels terrorism against India
External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar has openly called out the Pakistan Army, saying they're a key source of terrorism challenges for India.
At the Hindustan Times Leadership Summit, he claimed these issues "come from the army," and suggested that military leadership in Pakistan is linked to terror camps and ongoing hostility.
Quick catch-up: Why now?
Jaishankar's comments follow India's Operation Sindoor in May 2025—a direct response to the Pahalgam terror attack that killed 26 civilians in April.
The operation targeted terror camps and military sites in Pakistan and Pakistan-occupied Kashmir, with even Pakistan's Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif confirming damage.
Jaishankar also pointed out that, unlike Pakistan, India is accountable under democratic norms and values its freedom to shape its own foreign policy.
How did Pakistan respond?
Pakistan's Foreign Office fired back, calling Jaishankar's remarks "highly inflammatory" and "baseless."
They described their army as a "strong pillar of national security" and said it had "effectively demonstrated the country's defensive capabilities" during the recent conflict.
The statement accused India of running a "propaganda campaign" aimed at discrediting Pakistani institutions and leadership.
