Kiran Bedi wants a fresh start for Delhi-NCR's fight against air pollution
Kiran Bedi, former Puducherry Lieutenant Governor, is calling for a total shake-up in how Delhi-NCR handles its air pollution crisis.
She pointed out that officials aren't working together or being held accountable, and urged leaders to actually visit affected areas instead of just making plans from their offices.
Her push comes right after Chief Justice Surya Kant asked for urgent fixes to the region's bad air.
What's her game plan?
Bedi suggests a clear chain of command: the Environment Ministry sets the rules, the Air Quality Commission gives orders across NCR, and local leaders like chief ministers and police chiefs make sure things get done. District magistrates would handle daily actions on the ground.
She also wants strict bans on waste burning and industrial violations—and even suggested ditching government-funded air purifiers so officials can experience just how bad the air really is.
Her main message: real progress needs teamwork across departments and states, plus leaders who are hands-on where it matters most.
