Maoists plan mass surrender on January 1, 2026
The Maoist group active in Maharashtra, Madhya Pradesh, and Chhattisgarh has proposed a collective surrender of its members on January 1, 2026—moving up their earlier date.
In a letter to state leaders, they've asked for all security operations to pause until then so the process can happen peacefully.
They're also calling for the surrender to be collective and organized, following recent high-profile examples within their ranks.
Why does it matter?
This move could mark a big turning point in efforts to end Naxal violence in central India—something the Union Home Ministry wants done by March 2026.
If successful, it could mean less fighting and open doors for former cadres to rejoin society through government rehab programs.
Chhattisgarh seems interested in making this work; now all eyes are on Maharashtra and Madhya Pradesh to see how they'll respond.
