Monsoon revival eases heatwave in India
After a two-week break, the monsoon is back in action across India, bringing much-needed relief from the intense heat up north. According to the IMD, this comeback is a big deal—monsoon rains supply about 70% of India's annual rainfall and are crucial for farming. The season started in Kerala on May 24 but got stuck until now; thanks to new weather shifts over the Bay of Bengal, rain clouds are moving into Maharashtra, Gujarat, and Madhya Pradesh.
Above-normal rains expected in central, west India
The monsoon is set to sweep through central India this week and reach most places by late June. IMD expects heavier rain along the west coast and central regions, which should drop temperatures fast. Even though early June saw a 31% rainfall shortfall, above-normal showers are likely soon—great news for sowing rice, soybeans, and other key crops. With over 60% of Indian farmland relying on these rains, farmers can finally look forward to better conditions for their kharif crops like paddy and cotton.
