Mumbai's air gets a breather after crackdown on pollution
Good news for Mumbaikars—since late November, the city's air quality has actually gotten better.
The BMC says this is thanks to a bunch of new pollution-control steps, even though the strictest rules (GRAP-4) aren't in play right now.
Authorities are keeping a close watch on pollution sources to keep things moving in the right direction.
Construction sites under the scanner
To make sure everyone's following the rules, 482 construction projects got show-cause notices for breaking air quality norms, and 264 of them were told to stop work until they fix things.
The city also rolled out 94 flying squads to check up on sites and enforce dust-control guidelines.
On top of that, cleaner fuels and simple tricks like water sprinkling and road washing have helped clear up the air—plus, some helpful wind didn't hurt!
