NEET 2017: CBSE extends deadline for change of exam centre
The CBSE has extended the deadline for candidates to modify their choice of examination centre for the NEET, from March 27 to March 31. A new centre has also been added in Nanded, Maharashtra. The NEET will now be conducted across 104 centres. A record 11,35,104 candidates will appear for the exam this time - 41.42% more than 2016.
The National Eligibility and Entrance Test
The National Eligibility and Entrance Test (NEET-UG) is an Indian entrance examination for studying graduate/post-graduate medical courses like MBBS, dental courses (BDS), MD or MS in government or private Indian medical schools. NEET exams are conducted by the Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE). In 2013, NEET-UG replaced the All India Pre-Medical Test (AIPMT) and individual MBBS exams conducted by states or colleges.
CBSE announces 7th May as date of NEET examination
According to an official statement released by the Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE), the National Eligibility and Entrance Test (NEET) examinations for admissions into Indian medical colleges will be conducted on 7th May across 80 cities. The entrance test will be conducted by the CBSE as per the Indian Medical Council Act, 1956 and the Dentists Act, 1948.
Applying for the test
In order to apply for the entrance test, candidates have a month (31st January - 1st March) to submit their online applications. The official website to download the form online is cbseneet.nic.in
Details of admissions
Admissions for all MBBS and BDS courses will be done on the basis of the NEET (UG) 2017. Admissions will be made in All India Quota Seats, State Government Quota Seats, State/Management/NRI Quota Seats in Private Medical/Dental Colleges or any Private/Deemed University and Central Pool Quota Seats. NRIs, Overseas Citizens of India, Persons of Indian Origin and Foreign Nationals are eligible for the test.
Number of candidates
Last year, 8,02,594 candidates registered for both NEET-I and NEET-II. This year, 10 lakh candidates are estimated to register themselves for the examinations which will be held across 1,500 examination centres.
Eligibility for appearing for NEET
Candidates registering for their NEET exams need to be at least 17 years of age at the time of their admission or should complete 17 years of age on/before 31st December. The maximum age limit for registering oneself is 25 years; a relaxation of 5 years has been established for candidates belonging to the SC/ST/OBC. A candidate can appear for the NEET only thrice.
Results
After conducting the medical entrance test, CBSE will prepare an all-India rank list on the basis of instructions provided by the Medical Council of India (MCI).
