Pregnant Indian woman gets bail after months in Bangladesh jail

India

Sunali Khatun, a 26-year-old pregnant woman from West Bengal, has finally been granted bail by a Bangladesh court after spending months in jail for allegedly crossing the border illegally.
Her troubles began back in June when she and her family were detained, and she's been behind bars since August.
The Supreme Court of India stepped in, asking the government to consider bringing her back on humanitarian grounds because of her advanced pregnancy.

What happens next?

Even though Khatun and her family have Indian Aadhaar cards, their release depends on both Indian and Bangladeshi officials working together.
The court stated that it is necessary to inform the Indian High Commission in Bangladesh to facilitate their return.
The Supreme Court will look at her case again on December 3, so there's hope that she'll be able to return to India soon.
