Retired Jabalpur employee loses ₹21.5L in cyber extortion scam

India

A 72-year-old retired government worker from Jabalpur was tricked out of ₹21.5 lakh by scammers pretending to be Pune ATS officers.
They accused him of terror funding, put him under "digital arrest" with daily video calls, and isolated him from friends and family.

Scammers used threats and fake documents

The fraudsters pressured him into transferring money in three parts, threatening arrest and property seizure.
They even used fake Ministry of Defence papers to intimidate him further.
After his family reported the scam, the callers brazenly denied any chance of a refund.

Police investigation underway

Jabalpur police have filed a cybercrime case against unknown suspects and are working to track them down.
