SCBA asks Supreme Court to stop 'period checks' at work and school
India
After three women at a Haryana university were allegedly forced to prove their periods, the Supreme Court Bar Association (SCBA) has asked the Supreme Court for clear rules banning invasive "period checks" in workplaces and schools across India.
The court has now asked both the central and Haryana governments to respond, with the next hearing set for December 15.
Why does it matter?
Forcing women or girls to undergo period checks is not just humiliating—it violates basic rights like dignity and privacy.
The SCBA points out this isn't a one-off: they want national guidelines so no one faces this kind of discrimination again, hoping the Supreme Court will help end period-shaming once and for all.
