Supreme Court criticizes West Bengal for delay rescuing judicial officers
The Supreme Court has taken the West Bengal government to task for dragging its feet in rescuing seven judicial officers, including three women, who were trapped by a mob inside the Kaliachak 2 Block Development Office (BDO) in Malda district on Wednesday afternoon.
The group was accused by locals of alleging genuine voters' names had been deleted from the electoral rolls ahead of the assembly elections, leading to a tense standoff.
SC seeks explanation for rescue delay
These officers were stuck for over nine hours without food or water when an urgent SOS from the Calcutta High Court reached Supreme Court Chief Justice Surya Kant.
The top court criticized state officials for not stepping in sooner and has now asked them to explain their slow response.
The Supreme Court also reminded everyone that protecting judicial officers is crucial, especially during sensitive times like election season.
