  • President Pranab Mukherjee stated that India and China should solve all outstanding issues through "political acumen" and "civilisational wisdom".

    In his address to the Peking University at Beijing, Mukherjee said the countries should avoid "burdening" future generations with unresolved issues.

    Acknowledging the growing commitment to resolve bilateral issues, he stated that political understanding between the two countries is vital for "closer developmental partnership".

  • It was officially announced on Thursday that President Pranab Mukherjee will embark on his maiden trip to China on 24th May, 2016.

    His visit will commence in Guangzhou, the capital of Guangdong, where he will address a business gathering and also connect with the Indian community

    The President said that it is essential for India and China to walk together on the world stage.

  • On May 24, the President will address the India-China Business Forum in Guangzhou to highlight investment opportunities in India.

    On May 25, he will attend a reception hosted by The Chinese People's Friendship Association for Foreign Countries (CPAFFC) in Beijing.

    On May 26, after addressing a meeting at Peking University, he will hold talks with President Xi Jinping and meet other Chinese leaders.

  • When the President travels to China, he will engage the Chinese leadership on India's membership on the Nuclear Supplies Group (NSG).

    A key highlight of the visit to Beijing is the round table of vice-chancellors and presidents of universities of India and China.

    Bilateral issues covering politics, economics and people-to-people domain will be discussed.

    Discussions will also cover issues of regional and global significance.

  • This will be the first presidential visit from India to China in six years since the visit of then president Pratibha Patil in May 2010. Pranab Mukherjee will become the first Indian president to visit the city of Guangzhou, that has strong business links with India.

  • Chinese authorities said an imposter set up an account in the name of President Pranab Mukherjee on the country's Twitter equivalent, Sina Weibo, which has more than 500 million users.

    The account is identified as 'India President' and features India's map within a circle.

    The account reportedly demeaned India saying its population was higher than China, and yet development was lower.

  • President Pranab Mukherjee reminded China of India's unwavering support for China's membership to the UN.

    He reminded China of "India's constant public support through the 60s and 70s for the admission of PRC to the UN and the restitution of its Permanent Membership of the UNSC."

    The comments were made while addressing students at the Peking University at Beijing.
