Ugandan man arrested for duping Indian researcher of ₹1.9L
India
A 38-year-old Ugandan man, Micheal Iga, was arrested in Delhi for scamming Abhishek Kumar, a 34-year-old AIIMS researcher, out of ₹1.9 lakh.
Iga created a fake dating profile using his girlfriend's photos on Happn and convinced Kumar to invest in a made-up rare oil business from Assam with promises of big returns.
How the scam unfolded—and what police found
Kumar realized he'd been tricked after being blocked online and filed a complaint in February.
Police tracked Iga down in Burari and uncovered that he'd run similar scams using fake female profiles to target other victims.
During raids, they seized cash, phones, cards, and a laptop linked to frauds totaling several crores.
Police continue searching for more people he may have cheated.
