PM Modi launches UMANG app for one-stop access to services

PM Narendra Modi has finally launched the much-awaited UMANG app, which will allow citizens to access hundreds of public services on a single platform. It is available for download on Android, iOS as well as Windows. Over 160 services from 33 departments and four states are already live. It was originally slated to be released in December 2016. Know more about it!

    How to download UMANG app?

Smartphone users can download the UMANG app from their respective app stores; it is available on all mobile platforms. Alternatively, people can visit EPFO's website to install UMANG. Also, users can obtain the app's link by giving a missed call on "97183-97183". UMANG offers services in 13 different languages: English, Hindi, Marathi, Punjabi, Assamese, Gujarati, Bengali, Odia, Kannada, Tamil, Malayalam, Telugu, and Urdu.

Single app provides over 100 services

Union Minister Ravi Shankar Prasad recently stated: "No need to search various websites or apps for different govt services. UMANG provides more than 100 services on a single mobile app. More services are being added. Please download it and share your feedback."

How can users register on the app?

After installing UMANG, users need to register themselves by providing their mobile number. They will have to set a four-digit MPIN for account protection against unauthorized access. Users can choose two security questions to retrieve their account if they forget MPIN or lose access to the account. After filling personal details, users will be prompted to link their Aadhaar, which is optional for now.

    App integrates with popular services

The UMANG app also provides integration with the government's popular, customer-centric Digital India services like the Aadhaar, PAN Card, DigiLocker, etc. The app would also offer integration with many other services such as PayGov soon.

Using UMANG to access EPF services

Customers can avail several Employees' Provident Fund Organization (EPFO) services. Subscribers can view their passbook, raise claims for pension withdrawal, partial withdrawal, and final settlement. They can also track the status of their claims. But UMANG doesn't allow users to transfer funds from their old EPF account to the latest one. Linking Aadhaar to the PF account is mandatory to avail the services.

Book gas cylinder refills on the app

LPG providers like HP, Indane, and Bharatgas are currently offering gas booking services on UMANG. The subscribers can book cylinder refills, place orders for a double cylinder connection, and also track order history. It is important to note that for availing these services, the user's mobile number linked with UMANG and the one registered with their gas agency should be the same.

Other services like Passport Seva and NPS

UMANG users can avail Passport Seva to calculate fees, locate Passport centers, know about required documents, and check the availability of appointments. National Pension System services allow users to check current holdings and account details, change address, request for an email transaction statement, and track recent contributions. UMANG allows users to locate CBSE schools, see 10th and 12th results, and locate examination centers.
