Supriya Sule: News

Supriya Sule is a social worker, Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) politician, and Lok Sabha Member of Parliament from Maharashtra. She is the daughter of party supremo and founder, Sharad Pawar. Sule has done her graduation in microbiology and pursued higher education at the University of California, Berkeley. She became a Rajya Sabha MP from Maharashtra in 2006. In the 2009 Lok Sabha elections, she successfully contested from the Baramati constituency, defeating BJP’s Kanta Jaysing Nalawade. She was re-elected in the 2014 and 2019 General Elections, and has served as a member of the Standing Committee on External Affairs; Consultative Committee for the Ministry of Finance & Corporate Affairs; and the Committee on Empowerment of Women. Sule is vocal about the issues affecting women and, in 2011, ran a campaign across Maharashtra against female foeticide. She, apart from her cousin, Ajit Pawar, is seen as the successor of Pawar in NCP.
