Arjun Modhwadia is an Indian National Congress (INC) politician from Gujarat. He completed his Bachelor’s in Mechanical Engineering from Lukhdhirji Engineering College and worked for a decade in the Gujarat Maritime Board as an Assistant Engineer. In the 1990s, he resigned from his job and entered politics by joining the Congress party. He was elected to the Gujarat Legislative Assembly from the Porbandar constituency, defeating Babubhai Bokhiria of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) in the 2002 elections. Modhwadia served as the Leader of Opposition in the Gujarat Assembly between 2004 and 2007. He was re-elected from Porbandar in the 2007 elections, and in 2011, was appointed as the President of the Gujarat Pradesh Congress Committee (GPCC). Modhwadia resigned as the GPCC president in 2012, following his own as well as the party’s defeat in the 2012 Assembly polls. He lost to BJP’s Bohkiria both the times in the 2012 and 2017 elections.
