    Nabam Tuki gets relief from SC in corruption case
  • Former Arunachal Pradesh Chief Minister Nabam Tuki was granted relief by the Supreme Court in an alleged corruption case.

    The SC set aside the Guwahati HC order for a CBI probe against Tuki, and observed that the ex-CM was not granted an adequate hearing.

    The apex court also directed the Guwahati HC to hear a fresh PIL on the CBI probe.

  • On December 9, 2015, AP Governor Rajkhowa decided to advance the winter session of the state assembly.

    CM Tuki sought legal opinion regarding the validity of the Governor's decision.

    On December 16, a special session was convened by Governor Rajkhowa: the assembly passed an impeachment motion and removed the Speaker.

    A day later, BJP and rebel Congress MLAs showed "no-confidence" to the Congress-led Government.

  • On January 25, 2016, given the political turmoil in Arunachal Pradesh, the Union Cabinet recommended that President's rule be imposed.

    Immediately, the Congress Party moved the Supreme Court against this decision.

    On February 20, rebel Congress MLA Kalikho Pul, was sworn in as the ninth Chief Minister of Arunachal Pradesh with the support of 18 rebel Congress MLAs, 11 BJP MLAs and two independents.

  • On July 13, 2016, in a landmark ruling, the Supreme Court invalidated President's rule in Arunachal Pradesh and ordered the reinstatement of the Congress Government.

    The Constitution Bench of the Supreme Court unanimously quashed decisions taken by Arunachal Pradesh's Governor that had led to a state of emergency in Arunachal.

    The Bench sharply stated that "the Governor is not an all-pervading super constitutional authority."

  • The NDA Government sacked Arunachal Pradesh Governor Jyoti Prasad Rajkhowa on Sep 12. Despite several indications, Rajkhowa had refused to quit.

    His tenure came to an end after President Pranab Mukherjee passed a directive on the Centre's recommendation.

    Supreme Court's adverse observations on Rajkhowa's decision to impose President's rule in Arunachal Pradesh had made it untenable for him to continue as its Governor.

  • Arunachal Pradesh CM Pema Khandu, along with 42 Congress lawmakers dramatically exited the Congress Party earlier today.

    Mr. Khandu and Congress lawmakers joined a regional political outfit, People's Party of Arunachal (PPA) which is also an ally of the BJP.

    Post the exodus, only one member, Nabam Tuki, remains with the Congress Party and the northeastern state will now be ruled by BJP's ally.

    Pasang Dorjee, CM Khandu's confidant clarified, "There will be no swearing ceremony since it was only a change of party affiliation."

    BJP State President Tapir Gao said, "The BJP has nothing to do with this" and stressed that BJP doesn't interfere in Congress's internal matters.

    Arunachal Pradesh's ex-CM Pema Khandu was suspended, from Peoples' Party of Arunachal on Thursday along with six other legislators.

    The temporary suspension came into immediate effect due to pending disciplinary proceedings on these members.
