Ashok Tanwar is an Indian politician and former Member of Parliament (MP) from the state of Haryana. He has done his MA, MPhil, and PhD in History from the Jawaharlal Nehru University, Delhi. During his university days, Tanwar was a student activist of the Indian National Congress (INC)-affiliated National Students Union of India (NSUI), later serving as its president. He also served as the President of the JNU Students’ Union. He was also the President of the Indian Youth Congress between 2005 and 2010. Tanwar was elected to the Lok Sabha in the 2009 General Elections from Sirsa, and in 2014, was appointed as the President of the Haryana Pradesh Congress Committee (HPCC). He lost his Lok Sabha seat in the next election in 2014 to INLD’s Charanjeet Singh Rori. Tanwar quit Congress in 2019 after his disputes with the former state Chief Minister Bhupinder Singh Hooda increased, and his loyalists were denied tickets for the 2019 Haryana assembly elections. In February 2021, he launched his own political outfit, Apna Bharat Morcha.
