Firhad Hakim is an Indian politician from West Bengal who is a member of the All India Trinamool Congress (AITC) party. He is serving as the Cabinet Minister of Transport and Housing in the Government of West Bengal, as of 2021. Hakim has also served as the Minister in charge of Urban Development and Municipal Affairs for 10 years. Previously, he had held the position of the Mayor of Kolkata. Hakim was born on January 1, 1959, in Kolkata and completed his graduation in commerce from Heramba Chandra College. He was first elected as a councilor of Kolkata Municipal Corporation in the late 1990s. Later, he was elected to the West Bengal Legislative Assembly from the Alipore constituency in 2009. In 2011, he won as an AITC candidate from the Kolkata Port constituency during the West Bengal Legislative Assembly elections. Following this, Hakim was appointed as the Minister of Urban Development and Municipal Affairs in the first Mamata Banerjee cabinet. In 2016, he was accused of taking bribes in the Narada sting operation video which he later denied. In 2021, he was arrested by CBI in connection with the Narada sting operation but was released later.
