Kalraj Mishra is a former Member of the Parliament from Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) and the Governor of Rajasthan as of 2021. He is a postgraduate from Mahatma Gandhi Kashi Vidyapeeth, Varanasi. He joined the RSS as a Swayamsevak in the 1950s and, in the 1960s, became a full-time Pracharak. In the 1980s, he emerged as a leader of the BJP in Uttar Pradesh, becoming a General Secretary of the party’s state unit from 1980 to 1991. He became BJP's state head four times: in 1991, 1993, 1995, and 2000. Mishra was a Member of the Rajya Sabha for three terms during 1978-84 and 2001-12. From 1986 to 2001, he was a Member of the UP Legislative Council, serving as Cabinet Minister for Public Works, Tourism, and Medical Education during 1997-2000. In 2010, he was elected as the National Vice-President of the BJP. He successfully contested the 2012 UP Legislative Assembly polls from the Lucknow East constituency. In 2014, Mishra won the Lok Sabha election from Deoria, UP, and became Minister for MSMEs (2014-17) in the Modi government. Mishra was the Governor of Himachal Pradesh during July-September 2019 and has been the Governor of Rajasthan since then.
