AAP's staggering defeat in the Delhi MCD polls has left the party split over why it happened. While many in the senior leadership of the party continue to blame rigged EVMs for the defeat, several AAP members have stated that party needs to introspect about its recent losses. Why did AAP lose yet again?
Analysts speculated that AAP's loss had to do with the attitude and public image of its senior leadership. AAP's confrontational politics and their face-off with the PM and L-G's office also created negative sentiments toward the party. The senior leadership's constant blame-game and EVM rants have left the party with an image of one that does not take accountability for its actions.
Party workers demotivated, offer resignations
Several party workers expressed displeasure at Manish Sisodia's statements blaming EVM tampering for the loss. AAP MLA Alka Lamba offered to resign from her post, as did the party's Delhi convenor Dilip Pandey. They said they would rather support those who the people elected. MLAs complained that the party's expansion plans in other states led to loss of focus on the Delhi voter-issues.
We lost MCD due to mistrust, not EVMs: Kumar Vishwas
Deepening the internal crisis in AAP, Kumar Vishwas slammed Delhi CM Arvind Kejriwal for blaming EVMs for the party's loss in the recent MCD polls. "There was mistrust amongst people for us," he told India Today. He also criticized the leadership for taking decisions without consulting party members. When asked about need of change in leadership, Kumar said the party will discuss it soon.
AAP's Amanatullah Khan resigns from PAC
On Monday, Amanatullah Khan from the Aam Aadmi Party resigned from the party's Political Affairs Committee (PAC). This decision follows Khan's allegations that Kumar Vishwas, his fellow AAP leader, was "plotting a coup" in the party. Deputy Chief Minister Manish Sisodia said Arvind Kejriwal was upset with both Khan as well as Vishwas for going public with their differences.
No Punjab leaders will attend AAP's PAC's meeting
The Political Affairs Committee (PAC) of the Aam Aadmi Party is meeting in New Delhi today (Tuesday). According to reports, none of the Aam Aadmi Party leaders from Punjab will attend the PAC meeting.
AAP crisis: Arvind Kejriwal meets Kumar Vishwas
On Tuesday night, Aam Aadmi Party leader Arvind Kejriwal met Kumar Vishwas amidst speculations that the latter was going to quit over allegations made by MLA Amanatullah Khan. Post the meeting, Kejriwal seemed hopeful of convincing Kumar, saying he is an integral part of the party. Amanatullah Khan had alleged that Vishwas was acting on the orders of BJP, to take over Kejriwal's position.
