Kumar Vishwas of the AAP, uploaded a scathing video on social media where he questioned the idea of citizens voting for politics over national interest. What was peculiar about the video was that it indirectly targeted to AAP as well, over its hypocritical approach to corruption in the party's ranks. The video was eventually re-tweeted by the AAP official handle and Kejriwal too.
What did Vishwas say?
Vishwas first indirectly attacked the AAP government in Delhi for falling "silent and try to protect your own people when they come under the scanner," despite forming "a government on the anti-corruption plank with the promise of freedom from corruption." After the video gained momentum on social media, AAP's official handle and Kejriwal re-tweeted the video, as a sign of "democracy" within the party.
What was the motivation for the video?
According to sources, the video was uploaded by Vishwas in response to videos of army jawans being beaten up by mobs in Kashmir. Vishwas also attacked the Centre for failing to protect the men in uniform, despite being elected on a "nationalism" mandate. Other sources added that AAP's losses in Punjab and Goa have contributed to significant internal dissent within party ranks.
AAP functionaries disenchanted?
Sources said several AAP functionaries are disenchanted with the party's direction. They said Kejriwal has surrounded himself with leaders, who have lost their connect with ground realities. They added that AAP is now being run by people who believe in running the government "through laptops".
