During the session, Union Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman introduced the Manipur Goods and Services Tax (Second Amendment) Bill, 2025, in the House, which was passed. The bill seeks to replace the Manipur Goods and Services Tax (Amendment) Ordinance, 2025, promulgated on June 9, 2025.

PM Modi urges opposition to fulfill parliamentary responsibilities

Prime Minister Narendra Modi inaugurated the Winter Session in the morning by highlighting India's democratic strength and economic resilience. He emphasized that the Winter Session is an opportunity for national development and urged the opposition to fulfill their responsibilities. He said, "The world is witnessing both the strength of India's democracy and the resilience of its economy." The prime minister also welcomed CP Radhakrishnan as the new chairman, urging members to maintain decorum in Parliament.

Session will end on December 19

The Winter Session of Parliament will end on December 19, with 15 sittings planned. Key legislative matters and policy discussions are expected to be taken up during this period. These include debates related to governance, economy, and public welfare. The opposition is seeking debates on SIR, air pollution, economic security, and India's foreign policy, while the government has pushed for a discussion on Vande Mataram's 150th anniversary.
