Chinese researchers develop stem cell therapy for Parkinson's

Technology

A team of Chinese scientists at the First Affiliated Hospital of the University of Science and Technology of China (USTC) in Hefei has created a new stem cell therapy that could change the game for people with Parkinson's disease.
Their treatment turns over 80% of stem cells into the type of brain cells lost in Parkinson's—way above the usual standard.
The idea is simple but powerful: transplant "seed" cells into the brain to help restore what's missing.

Early trials bring real hope

This approach was first tested on patients earlier this year, and all six saw real improvements—less severe symptoms and better dopamine signaling.
The trial, led by Dr. Shi Jiong at USTC, even helped one 37-year-old regain almost normal movement within three months.
With other hospitals in China also seeing good results, this breakthrough could open doors for millions worldwide who need better treatment options.
