India is stepping up its pandemic game with a new AI-powered surveillance system that helps catch disease outbreaks early.
The Media Scanning and Verification Cell (MSVC), running since 2022, has already scanned over 300 million news articles to flag possible health threats.

Smarter tools, quicker action

The MSVC checks news in 13 languages and has made outbreak detection 150% more efficient, cutting down loads of manual work.
Alongside it, "Health Sentinel" software alerts experts about unusual infection spikes, while new surveillance units on the ground help speed up real-time investigations.
By connecting AI with lab data and climate trends, India's aiming for faster responses—and hopefully fewer surprises—when it comes to future pandemics.
