NHAI and Jio team up for real-time highway safety alerts

NHAI is joining hands with Reliance Jio to roll out a mobile alert system that warns drivers about risky spots on national highways—think accident zones or areas hit by heavy fog.
Using Jio's 4G and 5G networks, drivers will get instant alerts via SMS, WhatsApp, or even urgent calls, so they can slow down and stay safe.

How it fits in and what's next

These alerts will also connect with NHAI's 'Rajmargyatra' app and the emergency helpline 1033, making it easier for drivers to get help when needed.
The system is starting with Jio users but will expand to other networks soon—no extra gadgets required.
Pilot runs are kicking off in select regions to see how well the alerts work in real-world conditions.
