OpenAI and Google put daily caps on free AI tools
OpenAI and Google are now limiting how much you can use their popular AI generators each day, thanks to a surge in users.
Free users of OpenAI's Sora app can make up to six videos daily, while Google's Nano Banana Pro image generator is down to just two images a day for free accounts.
These changes come as both companies try to keep up with demand and manage the heavy load on their hardware—what OpenAI's Bill Peebles jokingly called "melting GPUs."
Why the limits?
The huge popularity of these AI tools is putting serious pressure on the powerful GPUs that run them.
CEO Sam Altman reassured everyone that while the chips are running hot, they're not literally melting.
Paid subscribers aren't affected by these new limits, and older versions of Google's tool still let you create up to 100 images a day.
All in all, it's about keeping things running smoothly for everyone as more people jump into AI content creation.
