VEIR's superconducting cables can deliver up to 3 megawatts

Technology

Massachusetts-based startup VEIR, with support from Microsoft, has built new superconducting cables to handle the huge power needs of modern data centers.
CEO Tim Heidel points out that power demands have grown from tens to 200 kilowatts in just a few years, with projections reaching a megawatt in the near future.
VEIR's cables can deliver up to three megawatts, helping data centers keep up without missing a beat.

VEIR plans real-world tests in data centers next year

What's cool (literally) is these cables run inside a liquid nitrogen jacket at -196°C, so they're way slimmer than old-school copper ones and can send power farther.
After showing off the tech in Massachusetts, VEIR plans real-world tests in data centers next year and hopes to launch commercially by 2027.
It's all about keeping up with tech growth while saving space and energy.
