Mumbai City hands NEUFC its first defeat of 2016 ISL
North East United FC was handed defeat by the Mumbai City FC in the 2016 Hero Indian Super League. A penalty by Mumbai's marquee player Diego Forlan in the early second half helped them win the match 1-0. NEUFC players tried hard to break home team's defence, but Mumbai team made sure that they do not let anyone through.
Atletico de Kolkata picked up their first win of the 2016 ISL after defeating Kerala Blasters 1-0 at the Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium in Kochi. The only goal of the match was scored by Javi Lara in the 53rd minute. Kerala Blasters pushed on searching for a equalizer. But the strong defence of Kolkata gave no chance to the Kerala players.
Defeating Kerala Blasters at Kochi, Atletico de Kolkata maintained their perfect record against the hosts. Kolkata has defeated Kerala in all the previous encounters in the last two season, including the finals in 2014.
Delhi Dynamos started their 2016 Indian Super League campaign by thrashing Chennaiyin FC 3-1 at the Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium, Chennai. Marcelinho scored the first goal for Delhi in the 26th minute. Chennai's Dudu equalized the scores after a goal in the 32nd minute. Within a few minutes, Marcelinho scored another goal taking the lead to 2-1. Soon after, Badara Badji scored the third goal.
North East United FC will play their first away match of the 2016 ISL season against Mumbai City FC at the Mumbai Football Arena today evening. In the last four encounters, NorthEast United has won two games whereas Mumbai has won one game. In 2016 edition so far, both the teams have won all of their respective previous games.
Winning both their matches, NEUFC are on the top of points table of 2016 ISL. Atletico de Kolkata are on the second place followed by Delhi, Mumbai, Chennai, Pune and Goa. Kerala Blasters are at the last place after losing both of their matches.
Pune City FC will face FC Goa in today's match at the Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium, Fatorda. The two teams have won a match each in the last four encounters, with the remaining two matches ending in a draw.
