Articles about Ajit Agarkar
Playing over 200 matches for India across all formats of cricket, Ajit Agarkar played for India from 1998 to 2007. A bowling all-rounder by trade, Agarkar was deemed to be India's answer to the lack of a quality all-rounder in the team. He was seen as more suited for ODIs than Tests. His ability to swing the ball both ways at the beginning of an innings and then reverse swing the ball in the latter stages made him a valuable asset for the ODI team. Agarkar is the second-fastest player to take 50 wickets in ODIs, only behind Ajantha Mendis. His skills as a batter were not bad either. He is the fastest player ever to take 200 wickets and score 1,000 runs in ODI history. One of the most fascinating records held by Agarkar is that he scored the quickest half-century in ODIs for India (in 21 balls) against Zimbabwe. He played his last international match in 2007 but remained a regular presence in domestic cricket until 2013 when he announced his retirement from all formats of the game.
