Articles about Curtly Ambrose
When a bowler standing 6 feet 7 inches tall, with an action that can only be described as perfect, runs at you like a steamroller, what would you do? This was the question faced by most batsmen when they faced former West Indies cricketer Curtly Ambrose. Regarded as one of the best fast bowlers of all time, he wasn't just a bowler who could bowl really fast. Ambrose had the ability to swing the ball off the seam both ways, generate incredible bounce from the pitch, and be precise with his line and length. Ambrose began his first-class career in the 1985-86 season. His ascension to the West Indies ODI team came in no time. In 1988, he made his ODI debut against Pakistan, replacing the retired Joel Garner. In the same year, he made his Test debut against the same opposition. Many considered Ambrose as a readymade replacement for Garner due to the bounce he generated after pitching the ball. In the '90s, Ambrose and Courtney Walsh formed one of the most outstanding bowling partnerships. Ambrose retired in 2000 with over 400 Test wickets. In 2011, he was inducted into the ICC Hall of Fame, and in 2014, he was conferred with a knighthood.
