Deepak Chahar: News

When he trained in his father's cricket academy, Indian cricketer Deepak Chahar was only given the new ball to bowl with. In the 2018 and 2019 editions of the Indian Premier League (IPL), when MS Dhoni used Chahar to rattle the batsmen during the powerplay overs successfully, it was that experience of countless hours of swinging the new ball in the academy that proved vital. Chahar had a not-so-spectacular start to his dream of wearing the Indian colors when he was rejected by Greg Chappel in 2008, the then director of Rajasthan Cricket Academy. On his first-class debut in 2010 for Rajasthan, Chahar showed his prodigious talent when he picked eight wickets for 10 runs against Hyderabad. However, constant injuries stopped him from realizing his potential. He continued delivering in the domestic circuit, but there was nothing exceptional anymore. Chahar's fortunes changed after the 2018 Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy. His performances in the tournament led to him being picked by the IPL team Chennai Super Kings (CSK) in 2018. In the same year, he made his international debut in a T20I against England and his ODI debut against Afghanistan. When Bangladesh toured India in 2019, he took six wickets for seven runs in a T20I, the best bowling figure in T20 history.
