Kaur fails second dope test; removed from World Championships squad

Shot-putter Manpreet Kaur was removed from the Indian team for the upcoming World Athletics Championships after her second dope test was positive. She has been handed provisional suspension by Athletics Federation of India and is likely to be stripped off from her Asian gold medal. Her urine sample taken at the Asian Athletics Grand Prix in China also tested positive for dimethylbutylamine.

Asian shot-put champion Manpreet Kaur fails dope test

India's shot put gold medallist Manpreet Kaur tested positive for a banned substance in a test conducted by the National Anti-Doping Agency (NADA) during the Federation Cup National Championships in June. Kaur had won India's first gold medal in shot put in the recently concluded Asian Athletics Championships in Bhubaneswar earlier this month. She tested positive for stimulant dimethylbutylamine.

Not the first case this year

NADA had conducted a raid at a hostel of a sports academy in Patiala, and seized syringes and vials of melodinium. Jithin Paul, India's leading 400m athlete and Jagtar Singh, decathlon gold medal winner, had come under scanner earlier this year. Indian footballer Subrata Paul was also handed provisional suspension after he tested positive for a banned substance, though his suspension was revoked later.

Information
Dimethylbutylamine used for the first time

According to the NADA officials, Manpreet is the first athlete who was found positive for dimethylbutylamine. The substance is similar to methylhexanamine, which was used by many athletes before the 2010 Delhi Commonwealth Games.
