    Smriti Mandhana signed by Brisbane Heat

    Smriti Mandhana became the second woman cricketer from India to play in the Women's Big Bash League. The 20-year old has been signed by Brisbane Heat after the BCCI granted permission for female players to play in foreign leagues. Earlier, Harmanpreet Kaur was signed by Sydney Thunder. Smriti, who opens batting for India said she is excited to be a part of the WBBL.

    BCCI allows women cricketers to play in foreign leagues

    The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) allowed women cricketers to participate in overseas T20 leagues. Indian women cricketers will now be able to participate in Australia's Women's Big Bash League (WBBL) and Women's Super League in England. Chairman of BCCI, Anurag Thakur said that the board wants women's cricket in India to grow and hence the decision has been taken.

    T20 League for women cricketers in India?

    BCCI chief Anurag Thakur said that if the Women Working Committee of the BCCI recommends an IPL type T20 league for women in India, then a serious thought would be given to it as the idea is already being considered.

    Harmanpreet Kaur signed by Sydney Thunder

    Harmanpreet Kaur became the first Indian female cricketer to be signed by Australia's Sydney Thunder, the reigning champions of the Women's Big Bash League. The Indian all-rounder will play in the second edition of the league starting 10 December 2016. General Manager of Sydney Thunder Nick Cummins said that they are delighted to have a player of Harmanpreet's caliber in their team.

    Expressing her happiness, Harmanpreet Kaur said that playing with and against the best players in the world will help her learn a lot. She also said, "I hope there will be a huge push for women's cricket in India after this."

    About Smriti Mandhana

    Smriti made her ODI debut in 2013 at the age of 17. In her test debut, she helped India secure a win against England. In the recent tour to Australia, she scored 157 runs in three ODI matches and also hit her maiden ODI century.
